(Listen to "Trail to the Past")
Trail to the
Past
The start of another trail
to the past
The spark of discovery
failing to last
And the heart of the lover
sails at half-mast
As the force of emotions
engendered by lust
Through the course of
corrosion renders to rust
Hormonal devotions, pretenders
to trust
Forever’s a concept
seductive to thought
Sold from the onset, so
easily bought
For, given the context, the
brain says, “why not?”
That old love at first sight
withstood its first trial
You’d seen the girl twice
and still liked her smile
She said you were nice and
was digging your style
It seemed a good match but
then always the doubt comes
‘Tween keeping a catch and
maybe living without one
In your scheme still
attaching fulfillment to outcomes
So you made a wrong move,
but you couldn’t have known
How much you’d improved, how
much you’d grown
You fell out of the groove,
man, and now you’re alone
